Quick side note: CT scan from Wednesday was good! Nothing new, and some marginal shrinkage of liver spots.
It is hard to even know what time or day it is when you're in the hospital (even more true in the emergency department). Something I've become familiar with especially over this last week. After struggling with GI issues throughout the week and having high fevers Kelly and I decided the best idea was to not ride it out at home anymore and head into the emergency room. I wasn't eating but I was chugging water but just couldn't keep up. I will be honest, it was a choice I second guessed multiple times especially while we waited to be seen.
The Emergency Department at U of M is not a place you want to go to for a tummy ache, it's where you go if you're DYING. I mean, if you've got something that some urgent care or smaller hospital can take care of definitely go there. But because all of my oncology care is there it was definitely the right decision though when we sat in triage and all you hear are moans and some woman dry-heaving for about an hour straight you start contemplating your life decisions. When you stay in the waiting room long enough you become one of those sounds, which I did as I began vomiting in the hallway. I was in pain. Severely dehydrated and all I wanted was some water which I wasn't approved to have.
Not long after I became one with the ED waiting room I was given an actual room and that's when all the labs and other tests start. Had a quick CT scan, which didn't show a whole lot, just that my colon was very angry. In turns out I had a GI virus that generally is only found in children. The joys of being immunocompromised with small children at home.
So, the course of action has been and continues to be hydrate hydrate hydrate. I have been getting IV fluids until this morning and now I'm chugging every fluid in sight to avoid a relapse. Doctors came in this morning and plan on sending me home tomorrow morning. My care team while I have been here have all been fantastic and treated me really well but I'll be happy to be home.
