Hey, Internet. This is my first blog post and, honestly, I'm a bit conflicted about this. Back in September of 2022 I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, and ever since then I have done all I could to keep my struggle and all the details private. Very few people outside of my home and inner-circles even know that I have cancer, but I have decided recently that a change is in order for the sake of my girls.
As a kid my mother had colon cancer, and I know what you're thinking, it must be hereditary, right? Turns out not at all (thank goodness), all of the genetic testing pointed to it being complete happenstance. I look back at that experience of watching my mother fighting this horrible disease and I find a few things: I dont have a lot of memories from when she wasn't sick, I dont have a lot of photos or videos or writings from her to spark memories, and because I was young I wasn't privy to a lot of the details of what was going on and at this point I wish I could just talk to her about it. I hope to fix a few of those things for my girls. Through these blog posts (and eventually videos) i hope to share with my girls what actually happened, provide my perspective, and remind them of all the great times too.
Now, I'm a little bit behind. I've been fighting this cancer for almost a year at this point, and we've been pretty successful! I'll dig more into that in more blog posts as I walk back to the beginning and walk through the process to present. I have some of the very best medical professionals in the business providing my care at the University of Michigan and together we are making great progress. I'm super hopeful, I'm staying positive, and I have every intention of beating this. I will do anything to beat this.
Along those lines, I am currently working to get a liver transplant. Unfortunately the metastases on my liver are too large and too dangerous to perform a regular resection where they would cut out the masses.
If you're reading this and you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a living liver donor for me, or someone else please reach out to me for more information, or fill out this form: https://umichumhs.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4YiUs39kUHCjYbk?Q_CHL=qr
I look forward to sharing my experience with you and my girls!
